At this point, the most critical out-of-state workers - frontline medical, first responders, and in-person teachers - have been offered the vaccine. Bowser/DC should do a 30 day pause on vaccines for anyone who is NOT a DC resident. Prioritize DC residents in the current tiers for the next 30 days and get DC seniors finished in the next 10 days. No more lollygagging. They may need to do mobile vaccine deployment to get the rest of the seniors finished. I'm fine if they drive down each block of the city with a loudspeaker, telling seniors to emerge and get jabbed.
^ I have this visual of Northam and Hogan laughing at what putzes we are. Not that I blame them for dining out on our tab.
Maryland is a shambles and Virginia has been going full steam. They don't care about a few thousand teachers or grocery store workers.
Sure, but as they've been scrambling I'm sure they have been laughing their a** off at the open door for so many of their residents to get vaccinated in DC--taking at least some pressure off of them.
You are being obtuse. Every state is vaccinating essential workers where they work. That is what makes sense and is simplest. They kicked 16,000 doses to DC for the healthcare workers and now it will just shake out the way it shakes out. There are hundreds of VA teachers who reside in MD and are getting vaccines in VA. Nobody is giving that a second thought because it's actually small potatoes and serves the purpose of getting these essential folks vaccinated. The next big chunk of measurable essential workers will be the postal workers and feds, which all 3 states have put in a regional request to have FEMA service.
You really haven't been following the investigative reports or actual numbers. So nothing you say is valid.
Everything I wrote is true.
16,000 doses is from December. Old news. The current news is that DC is last in the nation in vaccinating residents while giving 1/2 the vaccination supply to out of staters. Try to keep up.
^ and all 3 states are predicting the FEMA request will be denied. Consider getting a newspaper subscription, or a quick daily browse of current news.
And today Nesbitt said they have not gotten official word, and they were skipping postal workers and moving instead to DC residents with medical conditions (approximately 160,000 eligible residents) while they were awaiting word (and hoping for a different answer). I am very much paying attention.
That would be a step. Can you please provide the link or source to DCs apparently quickly evolving plan?
And have they paused vaccinating out of state grocery workers, food industry, manufacturing etc? If they moved through their phases with a focus on DC residents, things would be fine. It is the attempt to be the delivery agent for the entire DMV that is troublesome.
No, they have not paused essential worker vaccinations. There are about 9500 grocery store workers in DC, for context. Not sure how that breaks out by residence or by willingness to get vaccinated.
OK -- the grocery store etc. is a new batch they just opened up today. While still trying to vaccinate DC seniors and the previous cadre of 'essential workers--many out of state health workers, teachers and daycare. Not to mention running church and hospital clinics that have also been open to out of state residents. The numbers just aren't adding up in favor of DC residents making it through the line, as reflected in being last in the nation. What is the issue with pausing out of state at this point and putting residents first? DC can always cycle back to out of state when more vaccine becomes available as promised later in spring (mind you, these essential workers can also seek vaccine in their own state.)
