Myths: 1. Long haulers 2. Covid does anything more to your heart than the flu. 3. Wear a mask when you’re running. You’re welcome. 1) cite? 2) cite? 3) cite? Please and thank you. 1. Common sense. 2. Common sense. 3. Common sense. You’re welcome again. No further responses other than go back to your bunker.
Sorry , I'll take science over common sense. https://www.heart.org/en/news/2020/09/03/what-covid-19-is-doing-to-the-heart-even-after-recovery
Funny how we’re not seeing anyone from the MLB, NBA, or NFL or pro soccer league leagues not returning after they’ve had covid. You would think leagues would be cancelling their seasons with all of these studies showing permanent heart damage. And spare me your one example of the Red Sox pitcher, who probably had the heart damage before he even got covid.
I don’t thin PP was suggesting people can experience heart problems after COVID, just saying this is also a risk from other common diseases, like the flu. Some people seem to think COVID is unique in its side effects. I don’t think it’s been here long enough to know for sure.
DP. COVID is not truly unique, because it creates side effects that are sometimes also seen with flus. But such side effects are extremely rare with most flus. We haven't seen anything like COVID since the 1917 Spanish Flu. In my experience, people who cite "common sense" usually lack it. It's right up there with with "trust me," and "a prominent radiologist said," as bogus answers.
My point is that people are seeing one example (Eduardo Rodriguez) and running for their bunkers. Again, if covid is causing permanent heart damage, why aren’t we seeing the collapse of professional sports? From the article: There were single-digit cases of myocarditis at MGH amongst thousands of athletes who tested positive for COVID-19, said Dr. Aaron Baggish, director of the cardiovascular performance program at MGH and author of the new findings. https://www.bostonherald.com/2020/11/01/new-research-at-mgh-reveals-rarity-of-red-sox-lhp-eduardo-rodriguezs-covid-19-complications/
Well, I don't know what people in general are doing. DCUM is just a small non representative sample of the real world. The initial case of myocarditis in an athlete was in fact alarming, but fortunately subsequent observations showed it was quite rare. Separately, in older, less healthy people, there is more myocarditis than expected, though the rate is still pretty low. Put this together, and I can be happy that young healthy athletes don't have to worry, while still limiting my own activities because I am not 20 years old.
