Say the people who can telework and have a steady paycheck from home. Just this week there was a story about a restaurant in DC who had previously been profiled because he fed the hungry without charging them. Since Covid hit he was on the verge of losing his restaurant and couldn’t even feed himself. Only because they profiled him again and set up a go fund me was he able to get out of the hole. Multiply his story times all the other mom and pop shops that will be closing and cannot survive another shut down. I think what the governor is doing is trying to maintain the economy with tackling the highest And riskiest hours for transmission.

Except DC has indoor dining and that's still happening. The thing killing Kazi Mannan's business is that he's located in a downtown spot where no one is because they're all working from home. Virtually no other small restaurants around there are even open. These arguments always act like the difference between survival and not for these restaurants is government rules about the pandemic and not the fact that pandemic means people aren't eating out at these places to begin with. There needs to be a solution that doesn't depend on these restaurants getting normal business because that's just not happening. That's reality, not people being privileged because they can work from home.[/quote]
