Girls should play lots of sports in their youth. Playing soccer as a girl, and eventually on a very competitive team, in HS and college gave me a love of fitness and discipline. When I ended soccer, I took up marathon running and weight lifting. As I aged, Spinning, Pilates, boot camps. I was always comfortable in a gym. I was a STEM major and work in a science field. Team sports for a girl lend a confidence that follows them their entire life. If you have kids, stress family fitness. It’s not an option. Daily exercise becomes just something you do, like brushing your teeth. I married somebody who also values fitness. You feel so much better as you age—and look better too. You lose it, if you don’t use it.
OP again. I 100% agree. My wife and I are trying to impress this on my stepdaughter, with no success. In my previous marriage, my stepdaughter was the complete opposite. She played as many sports as possible and was very active. One of her favorite quotes was "Yeah I play like a girl. Try to keep up." It just instilled a sense of detetmination in her. Her junior year of high school she joined the Army NG and is set to go to college for mechanical engineering once she graduates HS. All of these decisions were conpletely initiated by her. It's completely different with my stepdaughter in my current marriage. She's not an active person at all, much more of the art/creative type. There's nothing wrong with having different intetests, but kids should be active. She is very lazy and does not like anything that requires effort, even when it comes to her art. This concerns me as she is nearing the end of a growth spurt.
