We both had undergrad degrees paid for by our parents - so are very privileged in that regard.  Certainly wouldn't be at this level without that.

We maxed 401ks from pretty early, did Roth IRAs and HSAs.  Real estate investments have not been all that great actually - I wish we had funneled more money into the market instead of making some of the purchases that we have made.  Not bad investments, just not optimal.

Our goal is 5 million by 45/46...it will obviously depend on the market.

401k:  $750k
Roth IRA:  $105k
HSA:  $20k

529 (2 Pre-k kids):  $150k

Cash (High interest savings account):  $160k 
Taxable Investments (S&P Index Fund):  $400k

Primary Home Equity:  $250k
Rental Property Equity: $200k
