[/quote] Deferral is a gentle way to ding an applicant. While it is possible to move from EA deferral to ED2 and get accepted by showing commitment, ED1 deferrals are harder. You would normally only get in, if they feel there is something interesting in your application that they want to explore further but don't have enough data to do so.
