I know it may be a reach, but consider for a moment, that the origins of the investigation were legitimitate.

That perhaps Papadopolous, who was at best, an intern at the Hudson Institute, really had no business being considered a Foreign Policy Expert by the Trump Campaign.
That perhaps a number of unsavory people with backgrounds associated with crime in Ukraine and Russia were at the head of the Trump campaign.
That perhaps Trump himself, had been laundering Russian money for decades and was a compromised candidate.

I think there is plenty of documentation about Papadopilouses thin CV.
I think there is plenty of documentation about Manafort's illegal and unsavory actions abroad, including the fact he is in jail right now.
There is plenty of documentation including a FinCEN fine, related to Trump and russian money.
