Highly recommend staying inside Yellowstone (we stayed at the Lake Hotel) and getting up very early to see the animals and visit the major attractions (Old Faithful, Grand Canyon, Upper and Lower Falls, Geyser basins, Mud pots, etc).  We did that 2 mornings--up at 5am and on the park roads at 5:30 until right after lunch.  You can see so many animals at that time of the morning just from the car, and very few other people are out so you have the major attractions mostly to yourself, though you need to dress warm.  Went back to the hotel right after lunch and napped.  Later in the afternoon we either hiked a specific trail or did some more driving through some of the more remote areas.  By then all the attractions we had to ourselves in the early morning were mobbed with people, and cars were backed up to the main road just waiting for a parking space. [/quote]
