Not a leftist, but you're wrong here. The hijab is more of a cultural symbol than a religious one; it's actually meant to mimic the Virgin Mary (yes- yes. Look it up.) But you're also wrong because Muslim women aren't worse than anyone else when they are adulterers.

Omar's love pentagram would be as distasteful if she were a white woman from Connecticut as it is right now. And that she can get away with no answering legitimate questions about immigration fraud and campaign finance violations is much more concerning to me than how awful of a wife she appears to be. I agree that her (potential) fraud invoking immigration reform and finance violations is more concerning,, but you are wrong about the meaning behind the hijab - and why her wearing of it shows her hypocrisy. The very word means "barrier," and it is associated with modesty (just like Orthodox Jewish women cover their hair).

She makes Muslim women look bad by wearing a symbol of modesty - and then opening her legs for one man while married to another.

Look, I lived in a Muslim country for years and I am confident I know the history of the hijab. And that women wear it regardless of their "standing" in the faith. You're wrong to make this about her being Muslim. She doesn't make other Muslim women look bad because this has nothing to do with her being Muslim. Just like white male senators who sleep around don't make all white men look bad. This is about Ilhan Omar. Not her religion. Full stop. [/quote]

I don't care about Ilhan's activities of any kind, but I did notice that she often does not wear a hijab but usually a headscarf or a head covering that does not cover the neck as the hijab does.   I will also note that a colleague at an international organization who is a Somali lesbian wears a headscarf at work but not outside of work.   The type of head covering and when to wear it may be situational.  [/quote]
