I have wondered this too. I think it's because Fairfax generally has a stronger reputation for higher perf students with the gifted centers and Thomas Jefferson HS. I mean,  the APS Super just proposed eliminating access to TJ in our last round of budget negotiations. It didn't happen but the fact that it was even on the table shows where APS's priorities lie.

APS has instead put its resources into Arlington Tech which they are trying to dress up, but it is always going to be associated with the career center/vocational education/community college partnerships. It's a good and needed program, but again this is what Arlington chose to do instead of TJ.[/quote]
