At our high school, as I mentioned previously, there are a lot of hoops to jump through make NHS and the kids don't think it's worth it. When I posted this same question that OP posted on another message board, I was very surprised by the number of parents who were taken aback that my daughter would even consider not applying for NHS. At their schools, they said, their kids would be seen as academically lazy and not respected by the teachers if they didn't apply. I also think re the peer group that it really depends on the school as well. There are many high achieving kids at our high school that decided not to apply so peer group is not an issue. [/quote]
