The chair endorsement came out last week and Alicia was the only one singled out for extra scrutiny. I am not upset at their endorsement (I had planned to vote McKay anyway) but to take shots at her and her specifically was unnecessary and uncalled for. There were 2 other White male candidates who barely got a sentence.
Alicia Plerhoples could be a political star some day, but she entered the BOS race with no relevant political experience, based on a hunch that one woman running against three men in a Democratic primary might benefit from a split vote. It sucks if the WaPo asked her sexist questions, but she’s also running a campaign that is fundamentally gender-based. McKay seems like the far stronger and less polarizing candidate.
I don’t get what you’re trying to say. So if someone has issues related to women as part of their platform, people can ask them sexist questions?
You don’t have to be a woman to have issues related to women as part of your campaign. She’s running a campaign that is largely based on the notion that people should vote for her in the primary merely because she is a female POC. Look at all her “seat at the table” materials.
I didn't review her materials. I did see the reference to the WAPO and the children on her facebook page. That's a public page relative to her candidacy. I've watched some FCPS intense work sessions and McElveen contributed squat. Plerhoples has a link to affordable housing and Connecticut. Not much if any affordable housing in Westport. Does she plan to use public funds to construct/purchase affordable housing in Fairfax County in areas that have more expensive housing? If so will there be as many units as could exist if she didn't for example buy or build in Mclean? Who gets the affordable housing and is it work force housing? That big no Amazon push was basically from and advocates for those present who immigrated from Central America. Potential loss of lower cost private housing. Fairfax subsidized housing outside section 8 where not even a single individual in a unit has to be a citizen or legally present? Is the pilot program of 200k for legal aid on deportation a priority? How much money? I think MOCO had stipulations on felons, misdemeanors etc whatever so CASA withdrew. The Fairfax legal aid for illegal immigrants is a mystery. I assume it's broader than MOCO. FX is also the only large local jurisdiction where Dems in BlueVirginia or Maryland ran a endorsement process for school board that opened up voting to non-registered voters and non-citizens. Who knew FX is more liberal than DC, Arlington, or MOCO?
