But the punishment had to be something in the near future.  At that age, kids don't really have a concept of time and anything beyond bedtime is someplace in the distant future.  So taking away a summer camp program really doesn't come into their minds at critical decision-making time because it is too far in their mental future to make an impact through their emotional responses.[/quote]
