1. it's evidence.
2. sometimes you don't have the time to note the license plate.

The police do not care. I got rear ended sitting at a stoplight. The car in front of me (that I was pushed into) stayed and told the police I was totally stopped/not moving. My car was totaled. The car who hit me was not ticketed.[/quote]

Was your car worth like $6 or something?

Because I have a very hard time believing that someone can run into the back of your stopped vehicle, hard enough to cause so much damage that it's totaled, push it into another vehicle in front of you, also damaging it, yet still be able to just drive away afterwards as if nothing happened and leave the two of you there.
