I live near the school... the area is comparatively racially diverse, and is about 50% white, about 25% Asian and about 20% Hispanic according to census.gov. The area surrounding the school is not wealthy by DCUM standards, but is middle class (not DCUM middle class, of course, as that’s McLean amirite?). Yes, the area has Title One schools, but it is not a slum. The people are lovely and they take pride in their homes. I’m not a fan of the Pences, but the area feels more midwestern to me because it’s not at all pretentious and has a friendly, welcoming vibe. So, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mrs. Pence feels like it’s more like Indiana to her than many other places in the DC area, and I doubt it’s a culture shock.[/quote]
