Medical Testing for Money. Riskier the better pay out.
there is a lot of very bad advice given on this thread.
It depends. There are reputable studies where people are compensated for their services. You can also make money donating plasma or other fluids. If you need to come up with money, particularly if your ability to get a PT job is limited, these aren't crazy suggestions, even if they might not be for you.
People can not replace their government salary, even a low level one, by donating plasma or fluids.
That's not the point. Even if you can't replace your entire salary, you may be able to make enough money to help tide you over until you ultimately get backpay. Forget the specifics of how to earn the money, are you saying that unless someone can replicate their government salary they shouldn't bother working at all?
I'm saying that advocating that someone sell their blood or plasma for 50$ when they're losing their government salary is stupid. Why don't you suggest they have a bake sale or selling lemonade? Because they'd probably make more doing that.
Someone upthread quoted $300 for plasma. Regardless of the exact amount, I don't think it is stupid for people to earn what money they can if the shutdown is causing them a financial hardship. Is it better to sit on DCUM and bitch about your situation? How does that help? If someone is able to make a couple of hundred dollars here or there from odd jobs of one sort of another, that's better than sitting on your butt and complaining.
You're not responding to the OP, who is WORKING WITHOUT PAY during the shutdown and trying to pay off $20k. And no, 300$ is not typical for plasma, more like 20-50$. https://wallethacks.com/how-to-donate-plasma/
Wait, are you saying that a discussion on DCUM that has gone on for 6 pages has deviated slightly from the very specific fact patter in the OP? Color me shocked. If someone is working without pay, their ability to do other time intensive work -- such as a driving an uber would be limited. But there are some things that are less time intensive and, even someone working full-time, could pick up a shift in the evenings or the weekend if things are that tight. This may be hard for some government workers to understand, but there is no actual law that forbids working more than 40 hours per week. I'm not remotely saying that this situation doesn't suck and that people don't have a right to be pissed -- I am not psyched about missing my paycheck Friday. But I disagree that -- if finances are tight enough that the delayed paycheck is causing problems -- someone should forgo work opportunities just because they wouldn't be able to make as much as they do as a Fed.
