This kid attended a school where I worked at one point in his school career. We observed that he appeared very anxious pretty much all the time. Not like a typical level of anxiety. He was always respectful, was bright and a hard worker, but very anxious. We talked to his parents about it multiple times out of concern for him,  but the parents chose to not pursue any kind of treatment for him.  Schools cannot force parents to seek treatment for their children and we can’t provide school based without consent. When I saw the news report I honestly wasn’t surprised that he had brought a weapon to school to protect himself. I’m not excusing his actions, but you’d have to know this kid in order to understand what drove him to do that. [/quote]
