Yes, it was the actions of the chair umpire that clouded Osaka's win. Being awarded a point and then an entire game without playing them is what clouded her victory, not the actions of Serena. Serena was standing up for herself and had every reason to be upset with the actions of the chair umpire.

That point and game should have been played by the two players on the court, not simply handed to one player by the umpire. Had they actually played the point and the game, the eventual winner could have felt much more confident about that victory. Anyone would feel uncomfortable about a win in which she hadn't actually won a point and a whole game on the court against an opponent, but had them awarded by the umpire instead. Just an odd circumstance for the players to have to deal with.
