That's the school's fault partially. They can just move their days off for teacher service days if they want to keep those breaks. The benefit of starting school after Labor Day is it's a big benefit to Ocean City and the MD taxpayer (tax revenue), for no additional taxpayer cost.[/quote]

NO ADDITIONAL TAXPAYER COST???   Sorry it's NOT a benefit to parents who have to pay for extra camp or a babysitter when no camps are open because all the counselors have gone back to college.

NP. You must not have kids in school or have to deal with summer camps/summer care. Summer camps are staffed by and summer babysitters largely consist of college students, who are all heading back to college by the middle of August. They're also off in early June, generally. So it's nearly impossible to find summer camps and summer babysitters after mid-August, because the supply of counselors and babysitters has dropped to nearly zero.

Wealthier parents can afford to take a week or two off to cover the gap. We're taking the last two weeks of August off to vacation with our kids, but we are dual earners with careers in professions that give us enough PTO to cover the childcare gap. Many other parents, though, don't have the job flexibility, the resources, and the PTO to do the same. Or maybe they have to burn all their PTO to cover the gap, making it much harder during the year to take a day off for a sick kid. Is it that hard for you to understand that there is a huge cost to parents to pushing back the school start date until after Labor Day, because the supply and demand for child care doesn't line up in August?[/quote]
