Many colleges now have orientation well before move-in day so your DC can register for classes,etc. It's a good chance to see the rooms, take measurements, and meet roommates in advance.[/quote] NP here - sometimes this works, but sometimes it doesn't. Kid #1 - she had her dorm assignment, but her dorm was locked up for the summer, so she couldn't see the inside while we were there for orientation. Kid #2 actually stayed in his assigned building (not the exact room) during orientation, so he was better prepared for exactly what to expect. As for meeting roommates, well, that only works if they happened to attend the same orientation. We went 1 for 2 on that front as well.[/quote]
