We’re feminists who value comfort over the male gaze.
Women don't dress for men, women dress for other women, even the indignant frumpy ones. The indignant frumpy ones think they are "choosing not to care" when they are often hanging around with other women who "choose not to care" so basically they are sheeple just swinging in the other direction. I personally make an effort most days because I like makeup, dresses, heels and all of that, but yeah, there are times I DGAF and wear soft clothes with elastic waistbands.
Women you view as frumpy are simply enlightened. Women who continue to fuss unnecessarily about these arbitrary and in some cases harmful “standards “ for womens’ appearance need to wake up. If you continue to waste time and energy on these things, that’s bad enough, but telling other women what they “need” to do is way out of line. You contribute to the objectification and oppression of women when you perpetuate these “standards “. Focus on your health, physical and mental. The rest is nonsense cooked up to sell you products you do not need. Don’t be such a sucker.
eh. there's this mentality that how you look and present yourself to the world doesn't matter and all that matters is what's on the inside, and as long as you're healthy. that's bullshit. it does matter. how you dress says something about the way you feel about yourself and how you view yourself and the way you want people to view you. why else do people dress crunchy or punky or professionally? there's a lot of depression and unhealthiness in this country and it shows. think of healthy, fit people -- most look pretty good.
It only matters if people CHOOSE to make it matter. Most ideas about looking “good” or “professional” are made up. They change constantly. What is considered looking good now is totally different from what was good in other time periods. It also depends on the context. It’s almost all arbitrary. Most is motivated by people who want you to buy something. You give it the power by refusing to challenge it. I challenge it.
