It has a very high repair rate. Are you planning on 4-wheeling with it? If not, get a more reliable AWD vehicle like a Subaru.
I'm a first time Subaru owner, and I'm getting absolutely sodomized in the last two years fixing my Crosstrek. It's a 2013, I've got 66,000 miles, and I've had to replace 3 wheel hub bearings at $590 each, both front axles at $700 per axle, and now I think my transmission is starting to go, which is out of warranty now and I hear costs like $7,000. This car is a POS. I'll NEVER own another one.
What???? I have one of these 2013 Crosstrek and that has not been my experience at all. I have ~ 80k on it and have not had any of those issues. What are you doing to that car so that it needs those repairs ??? Sounds like you are hitting holes ? Takes a lot to break and axle and wheel hubs...
My miles are almost exclusively highway miles. I only use the car for long trips between here and our weekend place in southwestern VA, south of Roanoke. This kind of driving is supposed to be the "easiest" miles you can put on a car, just highway cruising. We go there every Friday and come back Sunday. About 500 miles round trip, most weekends. In researching various Subaru owner websites and discussion forums, I've learned that Subaru really seems to have a problem with hub bearings and front axles going bad early. Mine has been a total money pit the last two years. This was my first one, and I certainly expected more. I won't be getting another.
Mind if I ask where you get the car serviced ? We have always used dealerships - just easier.
Annapolis Subaru and Fitzgerald Subaru. But none of the broken / failing stuff has been a "regular service" item. I mean, check your owners manual- there's no entry for "replace front axkes at 54,000, or wheel bearings at 24K, 44k, and 59K. Most wheel bearings last the life of the car. Or maybe ONE will fail in two hundred thousand miles. My POS has had 3 go bad in less than 60K.
