I have to agree. I am sure there are some families who homeschool and do it really well but the lack of regulations should concern us all. Look at those poor kids who parents abused them and kept them locked up for years in CA and in part no one knew because the kids weren't going to school. No, I'm not implying all homeschoolers abuse their kids, of course not, but I am calling for more regulations, standards, and check ins. Anyone who tells me there are enough standards please explain that horrific situation and how those kids fell through the cracks.

I have a relative who homeschooled her boys in a very rural area of VA. She does not have a college degree and has no business homeschooling them at least past a certain point. The plan was for them to join the military and then eventually college. Well they are both done with high school, no signs of joining the military or college, they just live at home and don't seem to have a plan. She did have them involved in club sports, scouts, etc. to meet other kids. They are polite, sweet boys. But they need some independence and I'm not sure why she didn't let them go to high school. It seems her hang ups are precluding them from ever having a good education and for having the confidence to get jobs and a life of their own. [/quote]
