You all do know that in the rest of the world (outside the DC-area bubble) people bemoan the common core standards because they are too hard, right?
You all do know that in the rest of the country, people believed Trump’s lies?
Education needs to be localized, not federalized or even run by states or huge counties. I know they might like the power trip but it’s worse for the kids and teachers. And education in general. I hope common core is shown the door.
That is correct. Obama thunk up Common Core federal standards because he did not like how Mississippi schools had lower standards than other states' testing standards. So he federalized the standards, any state that signed up gets federal funds for test scores above a proficiency level as deemed by Common Core/Dept of Edu. Massachussetts, unlike Maryland and certainly unlike MCPS, took a look at these standards and increased frequency of testing in EVERY grade of 1-11 and said, "wait a minute, most of our school districts have high standards than Common Core. Not good, no thanks." Virginia did not sign up either. Maryland signed up, and various school districts fell in line with asinine curricula with zero flexibility school over school. And here we are. In addition to 1000s of yearly ESOL illegal immigrants entering various grades each year and tiny magnet programs we have hurt our good MD school districts and schools.
