I've been in parking lots, loading and unloading my preschooler and baby, with plenty of open spaces around, and had people park next to me, too. Downright bizarre.
I used to think this was weird, too, but now I've got an injured husband who can barely walk without passing out. And I will now take the spot closest to our destination, when before I'd park far away. You never know what people are going through at the time.
+1
I'm sorry your husband is ill, pp. My husband was in a wheelchair for several months and could not walk at all - couldn't even stand. He didn't want to get a handicapped sticker for our car so I had to park in regular parking spots which wound up working out fine. I still never would have tried to squeeze my car into a space where a woman was in the process of unloading kids. I would have waited for her to finish or I would have found another spot. And I sure as heck would have expected similar common courtesy if I had been in the process of helping my husband from the car and into his wheelchair (which took maybe 5 minutes tops).
