This is very good advice from pp.  Your guy friends are right that you need to be aggressively looking, online dating, etc, not least because you might want kids and want all options open to you fertility-wise, and 35 is approaching fast, which is an important fertility milestone for women.  Plenty of women have responded saying 'just don't get married at all-it sucks.'  Well okay but your question wasn't 'should I get married?'  If you want to get married in this area at your age you need to put some effort into finding a mate.  I married at 35 out of sheer luck but by then I was already considering I might be enjoying the single beloved aunt life forever.  D.C. Is a tough city for single women.  You also shouldn't waste time on guys who aren't looking to settle down (no matter how fun they are!)[/quote]
