Yes, it is different: children are allowed in restaurants because children are people.  Your dog is not a person.  Home Depot is not a dog park or vet's office: many people who are allergic to dogs, or just don't like them, need to go to Home Depot for the same home essentials you need, [b]and your desire to "socialize" your dog does not trump their discomfort at having your animal inflicted on them[/b].  It is weird and selfish to take your dog to Home Depot, and I can assure you that many people who see you there are thinking this.  Taking your dog to Home Depot is so selfish and entitled.
