You would guess that BIP has ironclad legal releases the contestants have signed... which is why I have to think something extreme or actionable happened for them to pull the show. Their attorneys have to have advised them "That may not be covered by what they signed" or the details were such a PR nightmare the risk outweighed the reward.

BIP is out a ton of money with the season being cancelled. They don't don't do that unless there is risk to the organization -- plenty of past cast have gotten themselves into trouble and it didn't touch the show/org. My guess is the org/producers did something to put them at risk, not just the contestant.[/quote]
