Actually, yes it is.  There's more to owning a house than paying a mortgage.  It makes perfect sense for op to charge the going rental rate.  It makes no sense for that to be pegged to OP's mortgage.  If OP had the means to buy the house free and clear, it would not be reasonable for him/her to offer it up for free.[/quote]

Unless OP is renting out a mansion... And I can't imagine someone being able to afford $5k+ a month in RENT and having enough financial trouble that they are months in arrears. [/quote]

My dumpy mice-infested three bedroom in Boston is $3800.  For $5k I probably could be pest free and maybe have granite instead of Formica.  I think you're a bit out of touch on rental prices in big city markets, pp.  [/quote]
