Apart from Sarah Bessey, who continues to write, the other internet besties have slowly receded into the background. I think a lot of it has to do with having stable, happy relationships. Jamie Wright has backed away from most posting on IG or her blog. Kristen Howerton doesn't seem to be doing her podcast anymore. Tara Livesay is stepping away from her birthing center. What do they have in common? Seemingly happy marriages or relationships over the past several years.
Did they fade away into happiness… or did they implode their own careers? They were all billed as “Christian” authors whose message morphed into: “Actually, religion is BAD. The Bible is wrong. Live YOUR truth!”. What is the result of that? Your religious fans dump you. Those fans that deconstruct with you now have a plethora of secular authors and influencers that are way more talented. (Are you going to choose a book from some crass no-name like Jamie Wright, or are you picking up Brene Brown?) I think they deconstructed themselves out of a job.
Jamie had a very narrow schtick, the I Am A Missionary And I'm A Total Mess And Am Terrible At It schtick. That's a one and done. Which is not something you can build a long-term career around. Which is sort of a shame in that in my opinion she's the best writer of the whole sad bunch. Sarah B is just so twee and precious and bloodless. I can't read more than a few paragraphs of her before I feel like I'm about to go into diabetic shock. Kristen H. is super mid. A less edgy Glennon D. Glennon D. without the passion or sizzle. Jen has some talent. She can be funny in her witing. She has the depth, though, of a puddle. All these ladies had a brief moment in the sun. The world's moved on and there are better, funnier, more insightful, fresher voices coming up.
To the author of this one...can we please STOP using diabetic shock as a punch line? My sibiling died in a diabetic shock. Alone. It is a horrible disease and not something to make light of. Please.
