Wish more people were on this Forum because I would love to get the inside scoop on the Husel situation. Metro and Hammers are in Loudoun, Freedom and Next Level are in Maryland. Husel seems like the only Northern Virginia club thats local to us and I don’t want to deal with crazy but it may be my only choice.
All of these clubs are local. It is not uncommon to drive an hour for a club that gives you want you want. Field hockey is still small and not as represented as soccer or basketball, thus you drive. All clubs have their pluses and minuses, some more than others. There is a lot of information about clubs in this thread, you just need to read it. Also, the landscape changes so what was posted a year ago may no longer be accurate. The first question you need to ask yourself is what type of club you want. Then ask a question about which clubs meet this criteria located within your specific radius. Things you should consider: costs (practice fees, uniform fees, tournament fees), amount of overnight travel (hotels, gas, food), club culture (welcoming or not - parents and players), competitive (success in larger tournaments), recruiting support (if interested in playing in college what does the club do to help), coach experience (moms vs experienced players, vs experienced coaches), coaching style (yelling, belittling, calm, supportive), what does the coach value (winning, development, both), and whatever else I’m missing. If this is too much, just pick what is closest and then observe the club, listen for rumors, observe other clubs when you play them.
This. Don’t assume what a single individual highlights are the defining characteristics of what makes a club good or bad (for example some may want to prioritize winning while others may be more interested in more equal playing time). There are other NOVA clubs like xtreme, Mustangs, and now Jackals but they may get less air time on this forum.
