FROM THE BLACK WISDOM thread: Anonymous wrote: Anonymous wrote: I am a big fan of John McWhorter who wrote 5 years ago how anti-racism has become a new religion. White people are born with the original sin of racism and must spend their lives trying to achieve wokeness. There are priests like Ta-Nehesi Coates and Nikole Hannah-Jones who instruct the acolytes how to behave. "The call for people to soberly “acknowledge” their White Privilege as a self-standing, totemic act is based on the same justification as acknowledging one’s fundamental sinfulness is as a Christian." (Of course, McWhorter has also stated the obvious -- that Donald Trump is completely unqualified to be President of the United States.) https://www.thedailybeast.com/antiracism-our-flawed-new-religion Agreed. I don't hold white people responsible for the crimes of their ancestors, assuming they were even in this country when slavery was legal. Who knows, maybe their ancestors were anti-slavery and lived in the North? I also don't demand that they do something for me (or g-d forbid, BLM or other organization exploiting the current situation). White people don't owe me anything. Saying that they do means that I both need and expect help from white people. I don't. All I want is to be acknowledged for what I can do. The best anti-poverty, anti-racism, anti-anything is an education. I received one free for 12 years, with college credits to boot! It was on me to make something of that free education. My parents were working to keep a roof over our heads and food on the table. I saw them do honest work for low pay until they were able to get higher pay after proving themselves. You want an original sin? It's laziness. We're all born with it, and the only way to become "woke" to it is through hard work. +100 I wish all the "woke" liberal white people accusing others of "racism" because they choose not to virtue signal on social media would read this thread and take a seat.
