If they are so athletic how come they spend so much prep time in the pool (Phelps), at club lacrosse and on the erg machine? Should not be necessary they are all naturally talented at swimming, lacrosse, golf and crew? How come they have to get prepped so much? Is sports that important? Is winning or having the fatest time so important?
Well, I don't know about the fattest time. . . . but the athletic, IVY college sports-playing comparison isn't entirely accurate since this thread started out talking about 6 and 7 year olds prepping for the CogAT, something that has only seemed to gain momentum in recently years as GT became AAP and therefore a prize to be won by aspiring parents. The reason so many object to this so-called arms race, is all that drilling, prepping and training at very young ages takes time away from kids learning equally important things that may play a much bigger role in their future lives and happiness -- play, developing friendships and social skills, time for creativity and contemplation and observation of the world, etc. If all you crazy preppers would just stand down, the rest of us could let our children have a childhood.
