In reality Biden and the moderate dems have negotiated against their own interests. They have made concessions and cuts when they did not have to do anything. This is a total and complete victory for the republicans. I hear McCarthy has forced the Senate to require 75 votes for anything to pass. This is a soft coup. Too bad the dems tired their own hands.
It's in the country's interest not to borrow trillions of dollars a year. Dems should have done what GOP is doing now, when Trump was President. But they just want more and more government.
Governance needs to keep up with population growth, economic growth, technological advancement, geopolitics and other factors. This Republican vision of minimalistic government is a delusion and would lead us on a path to becoming a third-world backwater. A big part of what's happened since the 1950s is that more and more of the tax burden got shifted away from the wealthy and large corporations, onto the working class and small business - and meanwhile, wages for the working class have stagnated while the wealthiest have gotten wealthier, and small mom and pop stores have been decimated by big box retailers and so on. And shifting more taxes onto the working class and small business while also causing them to stagnate has also unsurprisingly reduced tax revenue leading to deficits. As for expenditures, the biggest areas of expenditure are NOT in civilian government, they are in military and other areas.
Tax revenues are higher than ever. Lots of countries have population growth, and manage to not borrow trillions of dollars. It doesn't have to be minimalistic to keep from going into debt every year.
Tax Revenues are down this year.
