I thought Remy’s idea to sell the drinks, snacks, etc., was clever and even a bit entrepreneurial, if you will. Jen could have taken the opportunity to explain that Remy would need to reimburse her for the cost, thus teaching her a lesson in Economics 201 (she already referenced Econ 101). Instead, she just drew out the story with her fake stutter and redundancy.” I have to be a uh an, an investigator; I have to look for, for clues. So I took myself over to my recycling and what did I find? Well, what is this? What did I find? What could this be?”
I might think it was clever if my 10 yo did it bc she's also on the spectrum and she's oblivious to how things work (like that it costs me money to buy these things). I don't think it's age appropriate for a 17 yo to think this is a way to earn money--by 17, she has friends who are working real J O B S, she has a car, her siblings had high school jobs. It's like a toxic combo of a child with special needs who hasn't been parented to teach her life skills and a mom who never had the patience and no longer has the partner to pick up the slack so Jen is stuck with the consequences of being checked out and now stuck. With the way Remy is described, she is NOT prepared to go to college and live independently AND live with a *real* roommate. Jen is really not doing her any favors.
I was thinking the same thing. If she was truly selling drinks and snacks as a way to earn money for something, is she that immature? This is an idea I would expect my 7 year old to have, not a 17 year old. Is there a chance that Remy actually did this as an F-U to her mom, instead?
