[/quote] Good point, he probably needed to give Christine a reason for why he was leaving early. Seems like he could have anticipated that and given a more nebulous reason but I suspect there was a web of lies at that point which probably factor into his motive for such a heinous crime. His life was built on a house of cards at that point. So the most straightforward explanation I think would be that he was going in early so he could leave early to drive up to NY. But, maybe on the basis of other lies and issues with Christine, he had already insisted he was up for a promotion and that became part of the story at the end. [/quote]
