One cousin in at Duke, the other in at Harvard, but both graduated from their state school because their parents could not swing Ivy tuition. I have a friend with an Ivy degree and her DH graduated from a top SLAC. A couple of years ago their very smart son was a senior at a school of very smart kids. The mom would not look at any school not in top 20 and son took his cues from her. Kid rejected at his Ivy ED1, scrambled and rejected for his top SLAC ED2, and went into spring break with no idea of where to apply as they had only looked at a narrow list of schools when making college visits. DS now very happy, but would have been better served by more open-minded parents.[/quote]
