I'm afraid to say either Campbell or ATS is moving to the NW. It's silly since there is no demand n there. No transfers to options in the NW virtually. But APS seems dead set on it anyway. Because. Reed.
Access to Campbell has long been limited to S. Arlington families. We live in N.A. I would have loved it for my nature/science loving DD but it wasn't an option.
Is it limited? The transfer report shows about a dozen transfers to Campbell from n.a. Elementaries. Is t it actually a case of low demand from north Arlington, for reasons of commute and perceived school quality in comparison to neighborhood schools like Taylor, Nottingham, Tuckahoe, etc?
My DD is now in middle school so I'm just basing it on the info I had at the time of her starting K, but at that point I was told S. Arlington addresses had preference for Campbell. Her ES was fine but she started complaining in K about the lack of science in school (her preschool teachers incorporated a lot of science). It really is a weakness of the curriculum. I hope the "all schools are STEM" actually happens for the benefit of kids going through ES now. You should have to depend on being able to lottery in to a certain school (Campbell) or buying in a particular area (ASFS) to actually have science throughout ES. At the time, Barrett was supposed to be the "science option" for our part of the county but by then it had completely filled with neighborhood kids so it was no longer really an option.
