I just binge watched the series and really liked it. I didn't read the book. I wish I had been a part of this discussion as the series was airing! I have a few responses to points brought up here- Some people didn't like the opening sequence, with the kids dancing towards the camera and then the moms cat walking toward the camera. To me it said that kids are generally open, natural, themselves, whereas adults are more likely to put on disguises and fake displays. The affair with the theater guy- I believe that it was added to the show to further muddy the water about whodunnit to whom. My take on the scene where Ed is singing at Trivia Night- I think he was, at least in part, staring at the theater guy's wife. I think he was suspecting an affair when they got to the event, and when he started singing he saw the wife do a full turn to look at Madeline from across the room. I think that he realized at that moment that Madeline had absolutely had an affair. I did briefly think maybe Ed was actually having an affair with Theater Guy's wife and he was singing to her, and that's why Madeleine freaked out. There was the earlier scene where the wife did the drive-by of their house... Maybe if they add another season we'll find out. The creepy Ed vibes (looking at Abigail, etc) I think were deliberate to make us wonder what he is capable of. His "sweaty women" comment to Bonnie I believe was meant to highlight the fact that he rarely sees Madeline sweaty, including in the bedroom. Again, if there were another season I bet they would make something more out of that creepiness. Jane and the ambiguous flashbacks- It had been what, 7 years since the rape? She didn't have a clear recollection of the rapist's face (she only seemed to be sure about what he smelled like), but knew without question that it was Perry when she saw him. I think her doubts were a part of her troubled psyche. I assumed that Reece was wearing Draper James clothes in the series- it certainly looked like it! https://www.draperjames.com/new-arrivals/clothing
