I had to advocate HARD in a non-busy ER not to discharge her because they didn't appear to be managing her escalating pain (which ended up being shingles, on top of end-stage cancer). They did not want her there and made it clear, and I am still resentful about how much stress they added to an already difficult situation. Fortunately, I won the battle . . . because once admitted, it took four days for them to control her pain well enough to discharge her to a hospice facility.[/quote]
