"Iran’s vice president announced plans to take over the administration of the country Saturday, more than 12 hours after the start of U.S. and Israeli attacks on Iran that are rumored to have killed or injured several of the country’s senior-most officials.
President Donald Trump announced late Saturday afternoon that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in the operation.
The status of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is unclear. He has not addressed the nation since the attacks began, but his office issued a statement about civilian casualties resulting from a strike on an Iranian school.
Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref placed “phone calls with ministers and informed them of plans to manage the country under wartime conditions,” read the report in Iranian state run media Tasnim.
