The sex ed curriculum changes over the past summer involving eliminating the concept of gender in the fle curriculum, and the push by the school board over the summer for eliminating sex segregated FLE classes starting in 5th/6th grade, in spite a huge number of students and parents (I believe close to 70-80% of *students*(!) responding to the survey that they were uncomfortable with combining boys and girls for FLE sex ed/puberty lessons.
we always kept genders together even in the 1980’s
Sex ed in the 1980s was very different from sex ed today's in fcps fle classes. If you were a parent you would know this For example, high school fle at least 2 years ago showed a lengthy video of an adult male get fully undressed, step into a shower, and give himself a genital exam with the camera focused on his hands and penis. This was shown in a high school class with the poor PE coach teacher having to show this video to a class full of minors. Curriculum such as this video would not have been shown in an 80s sex ed class. This video would have been wholely inappropriate to show in a coed class. ** I think the video was removed last year due to complaints. But it is just one example of why many FLE lessons should not be coed, while some might be fine in a coed setting.
