I can’t express how happy I am that I’m not the only one explaining this to the resident I-have-Black-friends DCUM posters. Thank you, PPs. There is literally nothing unkempt about TJ Holmes. Lord.
I don't recall anyone saying TJ Holmes wasn't clean-cut. He is. So is his replacement. The term means put together well in a more conservative business type attire. Same goes for Joe Biden, Barack Obama, Gavin Newsom, etc. It's a "look," as opposed to Ben Affleck, Lil Wayne, Mick Jagger, and those who look more purposefully casual.
Here is the quote. 12/13/2022 02:27 “ The new anchor doesn’t have a pompous attitude like TJ has. He comes off as a lot more wholesome, personable and friendly than TJ was. I think he is much more attractive and clean cut.”
NP. Can someone explain to me how the comment was racist if the same person was praising the black man who is replacing TJ?
Take the compliment to Demarco out. Calling TJ not clean-cut when there is not one feature about him that can be considered not clean cut is the problem. If the commenter meant because he has hair (Demarco has no hair) then it means a black man with hair is considered not clean cut. This really isn’t that hard people. TJ’s hair length on a white man would never be considered a length to be described as not being clean cut.
It basically means the only acceptable hair do for white women for black men would be a very low cut/fade like Obama or bald like Demarco or Michael Jordan. The very clear message here is that black many with any length of hair longer than Obama’s length is considered to be not clean cut regardless of whether they’re absent facial hair or rocking a tailored Armani suit. The same standard of beauty/expectation is not applied to white make counterparts. Nobody would ever refer to to George stephanopoulos as not being clean cut and his hair is longer than TJ’s.
