This Freedom Convoy trucker who tried to run over a bicyclist has been fired. [twitter]https://twitter.com/AnthonyFloyd/status/1490400873154957312?t=5xlZWIqF_p4EvZ8hGG69kA&s=19[/twitter]
Trucker had the green light, biker was in the wrong
So it was ok to hit him?
Yes. Bicyclist are considered vehicles and need to follow the laws as if they’re a car. They pull that card when it’s convenient for them, yet forget about it when it’s not. You want to play a stupid game? Here’s your prize.
Wow. NO. WRONG WRONG WRONG. You are NOT allowed to intentionally hit someone just because they were blocking a green light or "not following the rules." If you have a driver's license, it should be revoked immediately for getting something SO wrong.
He didn’t hit him. The biker was able to get out of the way. The biker was deliberately trying to block the convoy. The truck moved slowly forward, not intending to run him down.
BS. If you let your car roll forward into someone that's intentional, and he's clearly physical hit but the truck even if he's able to walk away after. I'm not saying that this is the crime of the century or anything but it's a both a traffic violation and possibly more. I had a cousin get probation for deliberately letting her car roll into someone she was having an argument with who was standing in front of her car, actually.
The biker was in the middle of the road when the trucker had a green light. What was the purpose?
I have no idea, but it's not relevant to whether the trucker did anything wrong (I mean arguably if he were threatening the trucker it could be, but he's not). I'm not picking the cyclist's "side," he's probably also committing a traffic violation. It's not unusual for there to be a confrontation where both parties end up breaking the law. My point is only that "I've got a green light" and "you're in my way" aren't legal excuses to hit someone. Take it outside the fraught context of a political argument and we all understand this. How many of people plow through traffic that's blocking the intersection when we've got a green light? No one. That situation happens every day and no one thinks they have a right to hit anyone, because they don't.
It does matter. What is law regarding the biker being in the middle of the road while the light is green, and clearly not planning to move? If he’s violating law and still refuses to move (as evidenced by the video), he’s clearly deliberately blocking traffic. The biker was clearly not run down, nor was he plowed over. The biker got the message loud and clear: get out of the way.
You're not allowed to deliberately hit people with your vehicle even if they're breaking the law and even if you manage to do it without hurting them. It's wild that you're pretending it's legal, because it's very clearly not. Both parties could get tickets and the trucker could maybe face criminal charges at least in the states where I've practiced.
Then encourage lawyers to take on the case and jail the trucker.
