I feel certain they were also hoping to get footage or photos of law enforcement attacking the alt-right, so they could use it in their recruitment materials.  It seems they've learned a few things from the likes of ISIS.

The right to peaceably assemble is one worth fighting for.  It's a despicable and diabolical mindset that uses that right to assemble with weapons and intent to use them.
