I have my doubts that the race is really all that close, but some of the nonsense the dems instantly put up on twitter about this, may be telling. They really are reaching. Blaming Hogan for the key bridge??? Hilarious.
It's not. Hogan is really a very, very long-shot and is likely about 10 points behind. Note that most of the pre-primary polling showed Trone averaging about 7-9% ahead of Alsobrooks. One poll even had Trone ahead by 19%. In the end, Alsobrooks ended up ahead by over 10%. The polls and media are very anti-PG county and very anti-minority. As a black woman from PG County, the polls and media are going to portray her as a poor candidate and that she is behind. In truth, the state of MD gives a lot more support to Democratic candidates over Republican candidates. While the state might vote for a Republican governor/executive like Hogan and Ehrlich, they are not going to vote for a Republican senator. It hasn't happened for over 40 years and with the divisiveness in both chambers of Congress, it is very unlikely that a Republican candidate outside of district 1 (Eastern Shore) or 6 (western panhandle) has any shot of winning. I think Hogan is much stronger than any other Republican candidate, which is why I think he'll come within 10% of Alsobrooks, but it is unlikely that he gets much closer than that.
