Landon is not heading down the path that Prep is on. Their entire staff is comprised of fairly young coaches. Bordley, while still the head coach, is more of a figure head. His assistants handle more of the college recruiting. Perhaps Prep should stop promising kids they will get little Johnny into a top notch D1 program. Once you go down that route, Parents who are paying upwards of $35K a year, will expect some type of return.
Confused by that post. Pretty much the only reason parents have to put their kid in Landon at $35K a year is for sports and the recruiting for college reasons. At least Prep can also say they are selling religion too. Landon's program is headed in the same direction. Lots of commits meaning the young coaches bang the phones and email to promote and place kids, but the product on the field is better story than fact these days. It would be a reach to say they are better than 3rd or 4th best locally now, and frankly they didn't even give Gonzaga a competitive game last year. Right now the only difference between Landon and Heights or a top public NoVa team is a couple of star players. That is a different thing than a program with 12-18 outstanding players. A decade plus ago there were few competitive club programs and few developed high school programs aside from Landon and Prep. Before Prep improved all the top players went to Landon and the success of the program was driven by just having all the players and rolling a ball out on the field. Bordeley hasn't managed to do well when the talent levels out and it comes down to being a better program. He's the Dom Starsia of prep lacrosse. When you're not the Harlem Globetrotters playing the Generals every night the beard comes off and you are what you are...just another coach and just another program.
