Okay. Mean-spirited attacks on '27 and '28 teams and Capital as a club, are not worth replying to at length. More interesting things to discuss. Here are the facts of the situation: --Capital Blue has been the dominant club in the DC are for ranking, quality of play, and recruiting for years; --The Capital Blue '25 (top ranking #1; finished at #2) and '26 teams (currently ranked #7) were very successful on the field, and in their recruiting cycles top to bottom, with placements at UNC and other top college programs; --The '27 and '28 teams are not playing as well and are ranked in the low 20s. --The question for the '27s is whether the recruiting will remain as, or nearly as, strong this year. We will know the answer in about 3 months. --The questions for the '28s are whether: (1) they can gel as a team and continue to improve, and/or (2) augment the current roster through tryouts--in order to improve their ranking and positioning for recruiting. --The question for the top DC-area '29s and their families, who won't know the answers to the questions above when they make their call, is whether to trust the Capital brand, or to look at other options--staying together at M&D DC, or, for the few who can make it, trying out for Baltimore teams like a number of top '28s did. We are weeks away from seeing how the '29s answered the question; weeks away for the '28s' key questions; and months away for the '27s. The next phase of Capital's evolution as a club hangs in the balance, and we will get a good look at the strength of the recruiting machine, reputation, and past performance. Get your popcorn. Interesting times. I'm sure the post mortem will be gentle in any case.
You seem like a thoughtful and well intentioned person. So I am hoping you can explain in a similarly thoughtful way how M&D DC staying together could possibly be superior to Capital for the 2029s?
OP, who you kindly deemed thoughtful, here. The prior answer was not me. Here’s my take: While I am not facing the choice (our family had ours last year), I honestly don’t believe M&D DC staying together is a superior option to Capital for the 29s. There are two straightforward reasons for this: (1) Game theory tells us that individual families will make decisions based on their perception of what’s best for their daughter, and as a result, unanimity—or near unanimity—is very unlikely. Several of the best players are extremely likely to try out for Capital and accept a Blue offer if received. This factor alone torpedoes the case for staying at M&D DC. Remember, families will not always share their true intentions and plans in this process; and (2) Capital’s recruiting infrastructure and relationships will remain substantially superior to M&D DC’s through the ‘29 cycle and likely beyond. M&D cannot wave a wand and bestow a new satellite with the main club’s brand, and hasn’t achieved that with its current offshoots at Shore, West, or even Orlando. It takes time and is necessarily incremental. Unless you tell me Scott Robinson is moving to Bethesda, focusing on this club, and bringing 3-4 players from M&D Black with him, it’s just not going to happen for the ‘29s or ‘30s. When you put those two factors together, even with the challenging trend lines Capital is battling, Capital remains a much better option.
The reality is who cares? The talented from ‘27-‘29 and beyond in DMV is abysmal when compared to other top area (MD) clubs.
