DD got in! :-) This is SKR from page 12 or so..
AWESOME! Very happy for you! FWIW, my DC with the very low processing speed, but very superior VCI and PRI also got in. We almost didn't submit the WISC due to the low processing speed (16%), but after some feedback on this board, decided that the appeal cmte may recognize the true gift that DC has. Thankful that we took the chance.
Exact same situation here (great VCI and PRI, relatively low processing speed), also in! It never occurred to me not to submit the WISC though, because even the psychologist who administered the test told us that it happens, and that in our case, it was probably due to the fact that DC found the paper and pencil questions of this subtest boring and was not aware that this part was timed. She said that we should use the WISC as it demonstrated very superior performance, and I'm glad we did. Congrats to all the kids who made it and to their parents who believed in them and supported them!
Awesome both of you! So glad that we take the chance and it works out. One never knows until we try. That's precisely what this has taught me. Do not give up. SKR
I was hoping to see SKR again in here but that post was from last year. I'd be curious to see how her daughter is doing. Her kid got in with a 120 on the Stanford Binet with a GBRS of 9. This year- My kid has a 119 on the Stanford Binet with a GBRS of 10. Keeping my fingers crossed!
The AAP program is for "gifted" children. These scores are good and you do have a bright kid but is not gifted. Please don't force your kids or they will turn into depressed teenagers later on. I do volunteer in the AAP class and I see the "average" kids who were pushed into the program and are struggling (now in 6th grade), rememeber that the program gets harder as they advance into elem classes. The classes become crowded only because parents think being in AAP is kind of social status, it is not, really leave your kids be happy. This is a bright kid who would do very well in gen ed which helps build his/her self steem and same kid would struggle in AAP which will destroy his/her self steem.
Your PSA is pleading with pp to leave his/her child where he/she belongs in GE (as determined by you), but your "gifted" student is placed just right in that AAP class, right? Instead pp should "leave [his/her] kids be happy." Get over yourself.
