Takes a lot of gall to bend definitions and gaslight that they didn't REALLY mean "adopt." The entire narrative over the last 20 years and all of their fame, status and associated fortune they enjoyed from this is based on being white savior Christians who "adopted" an underclass Black kid (who just coincidentally was a 4-star football recruit they just coincidentally steered to the dad's alma mater). I don't care how rich they are, they are pathological lying trash and so is anyone defending them. The Memphis sub-reddit has tons of restaurant workers all chiming into say they are raging a-holes, especially the wife.
I agree with you. I think that this is a big part of why Michael brought forth a lawsuit. It really bothers him that the Tuohy's have continued to mislead people that he is their adopted son. I think he wants to know why they set up a conservatorship rather than an adoption. I really don't think you can argue that they haven't done this over the years. Look at speeches, websites, television appearances. Please show an instance where they explain that they are "conservators" rather than adoptive parents. Obviously (based on his 2011 book) he knew his legal agreement with them was called a conservatorship, but he states that they told him it was just like adoption, and he trusted them. When did he realize that conservatorship does not equal adoption? That is up for debate, and will come out in the court case I imagine. I am an educated person with a master's degree and knew nothing about conservatorships until the whole britanny spears thing, so, it doesn't boggle my mind that he didn't know exactly what a conservatorship meant, especially if they weren't really using it. I have had dealings with the Touhy family (including Michael Oher) through their foundation. My own thoughts: * The Tuohy's and Michael Oher considered themselves to be a "family" up until at least 2016. * The Tuohy's are your stereotypical rich, white, MAGA Christian republicans and the Trump years could not have been helpful for their relationship with Michael. * Michael filed the court case to get an accounting of the conservatorship (which they should have been doing this entire time) and to find out why they chose to use a conservatorship rather than an adoption.
I agree with everything you said but Michael Oher is also very Christian and conservative. He follows Candace Owens on Instagram. I don’t think their politics is why he isn’t speaking to them. It’s solely based on how he was portrayed in the movie, any money they received for it directly and indirectly, and the fake adoption.
